The Methodist Church is one of the first UK denominations to sign up for the 11 MILLION Takeover Day. On Friday November 23, children and young people will take over at Methodist Church House, finding out about the different work that goes on to support the national Church and offering their own thoughts and insights.
The 11MILLION Takeover Day is an initiative of the Children's Commissioner for England that invites the 11 million children and young people in England to take control of businesses and organisations. Individuals, groups and institutions are being encouraged to demonstrate a commitment to listening and recognising the talents of children and young people across England by handing over the reins for one day.
Work is in progress within Methodist Church House to see how children can be part of the work on that day and how we can best learn from their experience on work we are currently undertaking.
Suggestions for local churches are contained in the upcoming edition of FUN and include -
- teaming up with a local school to see what you can do to help children takeover
- designating Sunday 25th as a Takeover Worship Sunday
- having office bearers in the church shadowed for children to learn about what goes on
- hold special consultations and events on the day or over the weekend to -hear what the children think in your community
We are hoping to post more ideas as we have them, or as soon as you send us yours in! e-mail your thoughts to children@methodistchurch.org.uk
